Now we've seen the latest version of iOS unveiled, which will ship on the iPhone 12, the focus can turn back to the hardware. The latest feature to leak is Apple's apparent decision to upgrade the charger included with at least some of the iPhone 12 models to be a 20W adapter.
As 9To5Mac reports, the new power adapter was photographed by Twitter user Mr-white, who's known for sharing details of Apple's hardware both old and new. In a couple of tweets we get to see the new USB-C power adapter in a transparent casing, but also in the classic Apple white finish with a clear "20W" printed on it alongside the Apple logo.
The iPhone 11 included a 5W charger, but Apple decided to upgrade the iPhone 11 Pro to an 18W USB-C charger. It seems likely the same split could happen for the iPhone 12, which is expected to be offered as four different models. The next iPhone is probably launching in October and there's thought to be a 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch Pro and Max models, and 6.7-inch Pro Max model.
We've previously reported that Apple may not include EarPods with the iPhone 12, so the cost saving from doing that could warrant a 20W charger in the box for even the cheapest 5.4-inch model. However, the EarPods saving could just as easily be helping to pay for some novel new feature, or helping cover the cost of shipping a handset that's thought to look like a small iPad Pro.
